A Coal Miner's Bride

Page history last edited by Steffanie Bristow 12 years, 11 months ago

Explore America from the perspective of 13-year-old Anetka Kaminska, a young Polish immigrant betrothed to a Pennsylvania coal miner.  Despite her father's assurances, Anna is skeptical of all that America has to offer, but her tenacious nature allows her to persevere.  A Coal Miner's Bride: The Diary of Anetka Kaminska, by Susan Bartelotti follows the travels of young Anetka as she leaves her best friend and grandmother for a new life in America.  Upon her arrival Anetka learns she will be married to a widowed coal miner and assume the role of mother for his daughters.  Feel Anetka's joy in the small victories and her frustrations as she undertakes learning how to live an entirely new life as a wife and mother.

Steph, I like how you have your pages nice and organized! I also like how you can go look at a page and then you have links to return to home page and additional pages. The picture was very sad to see of the coal miners house. I couldn't imagine living like that, and to think people did back then. We take so much for granted now. It will give the students a good view of how they lived back then.
