Step 1:

Introduce the Vocabulary Terms Strike

Union

Negotiate

Read or watch the children's book "Click Clack Moo" by Doreen Cronin

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_kBLJIYEiI

The book illustrates that cows work together to demand something they need, then strike when they do not get it.  They negotiate with the farmer and everyone ends up happy.  As you read the book, discuss the terms: Strike, Union, and Negotiate

Step 2: Have the students write the new vocab terms in their journals.  Strike

Union

Negotiate

The students will be keeping a journal throughout the new where new words and concepts will be recorded.

Step 3:

The Learner will demonstrate knowledge of the vocabulary terms.

The students will be shown pictures of the words in action throughout history.

Strike

Union

Negotiate

Step 4:

The learners will participate in activities that provide more knowledge of the words.

The students will write their own version of Click Clack Moo and model forming a union, staging a strike, and doing a negotiation.  They must use the words in the story, but can add illustrations to their stories

Step 5:

The students will interact with other students using the words

The students will share their stories with the class in small groups.  Each group will make a checklist and mark off it the words are used correctly in each others stories.

Step 6:

The learner will participate in a game to further reinforce the vocabulary terms.
