Out of the Ordinary Lesson Plans

As part of the unit on immigration for 5th grader in U.S. History, students will connect to the story, Out of the Ordinary by Michelle Barone, through a variety of lesson plans designed to engage students through differentiated instruction.  At the end of the lessons will be an acculative assessment demonstrating student understanding of concepts in Out of the Ordinary by creating a Storybird.  Each lesson plan incorporates Minnesota State Standards for grades 4-8.

  • Over the course of three days, students will read portions of the text out loud, in class, followed by the discussion lesson plan.

  • Over the course of the week, students will demonstrate their understanding of bullying by participating in classroom discussion, research and presentations of an anti-bullying campaign at Out_of_the_Ordinary_Citizen_Action_Plan.

Great navigation. Just remember to always have a return link.

Corrissa- I like the narrative you have that lays everything out. Can you reformat it to make it easier to read through, like bullet or color? Just a thought

Corissa- Great start on the Lesson plan introductory page! As Mary mentioned make sure to add a picture or color, and to make the page visually appealing! I like how you explain how the flow of a unit can flow with the book. Again, just make it as easy for teachers to follow as possible.

Thank you for the feedback on my lesson plan home page! I was also debating on using graphics or changing the color/font of the words.
