Esperanza Rising: Pam Munoz Ryan

Pam Munoz Ryan is a Mexican-American author of over 30 books including Esperanza Rising, Becoming Naomi Leon, and Riding Freedom. She drew upon her grandmother's experience immigrating from Mexico as inspiration for Esperanza Rising. The book earned Ryan the 2002 Pura Belpre Award, which is given annually to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays the Latino cultural experience in a literary work for children and youth.
